She brought out a confidence in me I didn’t know I had.

Julianne has been incredible and has made such a difference to how I approach English. She helped me achieve a coursework mark I’m really proud of, and I honestly couldn’t have done it without her. Her way of explaining things just clicks, and she always makes you feel supported and encouraged, even when you’re struggling. She brought out a confidence in me I didn’t know I had. I’m so grateful for all her help. I will miss Betsy the dog!

You turned my education life around.

When you agreed to teach me it became one of the best days of my life. You turned my education life around because you know how to start every project even in the subjects you say you are rubbish in and that has helped me not feel like running out of the classroom basically every day. Also, you are really kind because on the days I mess about you let me play with Betsy until I can sit still and you never make me feel bad about my ADHD brain. If there was a trophy for being the most amazing teacher I would give it to you. I should make you one in art or DT or even at home.

I went from getting a D in my Year 12 English A-Level mock to being on track to achieve an A. Julianne was the first person to have faith in me.

At the start of Year 12 I genuinely thought I would have to rethink my future. All my plans for university and my degree seemed impossible when my dyslexia got the better of me, having chosen 3 essay A-Level subject. Then I met Julianne. She made what seemed like the impossible, possible again.

Working with Julianne has not only given me hope for my future but also a newfound confidence in my academic ability. I used to think I was stupid because my test results would never reflect my ability in a subject. Julianne was the first person to help me convert the complex ideas I had in my head, into cohesive essays. This drastic change became apparent when I went from getting a D in my Year 12 English A-Level mock (this being rock bottom for me considering English was my favourite subject) to being on track to achieve an A. She taught me that it was never my knowledge that was the problem, I was simply stuck in a system that wasn’t built for my type of brain. What Julianne does is rather than temporarily fix your issues, she permanently changes your mindset. She was the first person to say, ‘you are smart’, a phrase I had never affiliated myself with. Finally hearing someone call me smart forever changed my life and mindset.

No one has showed the same faith in me that Julianne has. I can now truly describe myself through combining the two words I never thought could relate: I am both smart and dyslexic.

Julianne will teach me the Treaty of Versailles while I’m lying on her kitchen floor. If for whatever reason that day I can’t pay attention or some information just isn’t going in we will park it and do something else. If my brain says not today, it means not today.

When I started homeschooling my perceptions on education and schooling changed for the better. I was able to work with the curriculum that was being given to me and complete the work independently at home. I have never ever been able to do my work independently without my mum sitting by my side. At school I couldn’t access the work because I wasn’t ready to do it, the teacher would rush through the powerpoint and expect me to go home and finish the work. That was just a disaster waiting to happen, that did happen.

The first time I met Julianne I instantly new she was not BORING. When she was explaining to me how homeschool works it all felt so surreal. Julianne will find different teaching ways to work with your brain. She is trained to work with SEN children so she can tell if you’ve switch on or off. Julianne will teach me the Treaty of Versailles while I’m lying on her kitchen floor. If for whatever reason that day I can’t pay attention or some information just isn’t going in we will park it and do something else. If my brain says not today, it means not today.

When I’m reading with Julianne and I don’t understand a part of the book we act out the scene. We try and picture what it would be like being those characters. I find it hard to process chunks of information so what we do is chunking. We read a sentence stop, process it and explain what that sentence means. Chunking is very helpful.

Before homeschool I would be very self-conscious for how long it would take for  me to understand the topic or to do the work. I was angry that other people could complete the work without a fuss and I would be there feeling really crappy about myself. When Julianne became my teacher she told me, word for word, ‘ Not every brain works the same way ; they’re not meant to.’ This gave me a boost. I realised that it doesn’t matter how long it takes me to do something as long as I get their in the end.

My future has changed for the better being a student in my teachers kitchen. Not only has she boosted my confidence but has inspired me to become a happier person. Originally I wanted to publish my book, Julianne was the one who came up with the idea for me to create a website. In the future I hope to be able to publish my book, but that is a different goal waiting to be achieved.

Everyone I know who sees her feels lucky. Also, she is amazing as a person.

When I say i would be lost without her, believe it. I save up the hardest things to bring her, because she will always be able to show me how to do it 1000% more easily than I can think of. She shows me the steps I have to take in little pieces so I don’t get overwhelmed which I do a lot. I’m predicted a 7 in English which is a miracle because some days i can’t get my words out at all. Everyone I know who sees her feels lucky. Also, she is amazing as a person.

If it weren't for you, teachers would still be saying all my problems are that I don’t believe in myself, and that I’m not trying hard enough.

I just wanted to tell you that you have been the biggest help to my learning, finding out what i struggle with and teaching me how to deal with it. If it weren't for you, teachers would still be saying all my problems are that I don’t believe in myself, and that I’m not trying hard enough. You saw my ADHD first, and helped me finally get help at school. I will eternally be grateful for your help and advice !!! xxx

Subjects that I never found interesting have become my favourites due to Julianne’s passion and unique way of teaching.

I am only at the start of my journey with Julianne but I am now beginning to understand why my older brother and sister have always said how amazing she is!

Julianne is patient, kind, funny and inspiring. Subjects that I never found interesting have become my favourites due to Julianne’s passion and unique way of teaching.

She has ignited a love for learning that I didn’t know I had, and my confidence has hugely increased as a result.

Thanks to Julianne, I was also able to start using a laptop in year four – something that my school would never previously allow.

I am excited about my future learning and feel very lucky to be seeing Julianne.

Her confidence in me and high expectations has led me to succeed in ways even I am proud of.

Julianne has not only been an inspiration to me in her outlook on life, but her confidence in me and high expectations has led me to succeed in ways even I am proud of. In anything I needed she has been able to give the starting push necessary for me to prosper academically, but also generally, to come into the person I feel I am today.

Julianne identified ways in which I required extra help in school, and then was instrumental in getting the school to provide me with this support.

Julianne has completely changed the course of my life. My earliest memories of school are ones of frustration; my results never reflected the effort I put into my work. I couldn’t understand why things I found so difficult seemed to come naturally for everyone else. Then I met Julianne. She completely understands how my neurodiverse brain works and has helped me to realise that my academic struggles aren’t because I’m not intelligent enough, my brain just works differently to other people’s. After years of feeling inferior in a high-achieving school, this understanding, along with the practical support from Julianne, gave me a much needed confidence boost.

My family and I joke that Julianne speaks fluent Kate - she always knows where and why I’m struggling, and what support I need. She has taught me to revise effectively and efficiently, helped me with essay writing and given me strategies for time management, to name a few of the many ways she supports me.

Furthermore, Julianne identified ways in which I required extra help in school, and then was instrumental in getting the school to provide me with this support. My slow processing made GCSEs especially challenging, as I struggled to finish all the classwork, let alone understand the content during lessons. Julianne not only taught me the material herself, but also worked with my school to make sure that the teachers gave me notes from the lessons, allowing me to focus on understanding the content.

I am now taking my A Levels and am hoping to become a doctor. I can honestly say that without Julianne, I would never have dreamed of pursuing this route. I will always be hugely grateful to her for everything that she has done for me and my family.

Kate did get into medical school!!!

…single handily improved my exam confidence and content knowledge.

I’m very fortunate to have been taught by Julianne Miller, she single handily improved my exam confidence and content knowledge. She taught me how to structure my work and my revision, without this help I could never have gotten my great GCSE grades!

Her method of teaching is unlike any teachers I’ve ever had, I never liked having to go back to school everyday but I’d count the days till my next Julianne lesson!'

She just makes things better.

I came to Julianne because I was failing half my subjects. I basically thought school was boring. Julianne somehow made it interesting. My lowest grade turned out to be a 6, which was a shock. I am staying for my A levels too, because she just makes things better.

I have been very, very fortunate to have Julianne help me over many years. High expectations have led to high rewards and I wouldn’t be where I am without her support. I think some people are put on this earth to light the way for others.

I think some people are put on this earth to light the way for others.  For my family and me, that was Ms. Miller.  I had no idea I was dyslexic, but I definitely knew reading, and understanding what I read, were harder for me.  From Charlotte, NC to London, UK, reading became something I hated to do.  I loved to hear someone read to me, but reading myself..I hated it.  Then, finally, testing showed I was dyslexic and with luck, Ms. Miller found time to spend with me and began to change my life.

Ms. Miller's energy, enthusiasm, and love are the best (and my parents appreciate how knowledgeable she is)  She immediately made me comfortable from my very first visit to her home.  She simplified what had been a very complicated struggle for me and for my family - we laughed together, we read together, we did word challenges and vocabulary...we even did math.  And it was fun, I looked forward to my time with her.  Most importantly, my own confidence began to resurface, I felt better about myself at school and at home.  My mom still gets tears in her eyes when she thinks about all Ms. Miller and I accomplished together - she says it was a turning point for me.

It's going on two years since we lived in London, but I can safely say that Ms. Miller has never left our side.  When we first moved to NYC we continued tutoring through Skype.  This helped me to start a new school and feel confident, knowing with Ms. Miller I would be ok.  Even now, I know I can check in and tell her how I'm doing.  I'm confident now and it shows...Ms. Miller showed me the way.
